What has your nominees said written or done that merits an award? |
Mr. Stein's nomination is based on his article Wall Street, Run Amok" in the New York Times on Sunday April 27, 2007 in which Mr. Stein laments the lack of regulation on wall street — a common theme in his columns. "How on earth," he cries, "did the credit crisis on Wall Street become such a catastrophe? ... Weren't government watchdogs there to make sure that catastrophes could not happen?" He bemoans the "immense lie: that deregulation carried to an extreme will not lead to calamity." Nonetheless, Mr. Stein who is a "political figure who served as speechwriter for U.S. presidents Richard Nixon and Gerald Ford" and a Nixon apologist continues to support the Republican party, the party of the very deregulation that he continuously bemoans as it destroys our economic system. He has chided the party for their lopsided tax cuts that primarily benefit the wealthy, and bemoaned our opaque system of corporate governance. Nevertheless, he continues to support the Republicans. If Watergate and the sub-prime crisis can't set him straight, perhaps wining this award will. Mr. Stein's nomination is also built on his new movie "Expelled". Just as he remains ignorant to the fact that his beloved party gutted the agencies that house the watchdogs whose absence now so concerns him, Mr. Stein remains ignorant as to why academia is hostile to those who don't believe in evolution. Please don't tell him that it is for the same reason that academia is hostile to those who champion geocentrism or the flat earth hypothesis. |
